Match Report: Avro 0-0 Mossley

It was honours even on Saturday (November 18) as Avro and Mossley played out a 0-0 draw at a wet and windy Vestacare Stadium.

The match was thought to be the tie of the round in the Northern Premier League West as 8^th place played 11^th, but the affair didn’t really live up to the expectations.

Avro went into the match full of confidence after a stunning 4-3 win away to Leek Town the week before, whereas visitors Mossley came into the game off the back of a 3-0 defeat at home to Runcorn Linnets.

Much like many Avro matches this season this one was a feisty affair, with the home side keen to make it a battle.

Visitors Mossley seemed up for the fight though, and they showed no signs of wilting under the pressure.

There were plenty of strong tackles flying in throughout the first half with both sides fortunate to escape bookings.

In terms of chances there were a couple for both sides from set pieces, the first coming to Mossley, with Alfie Belcher swinging a free kick towards the head of Jack Grundy whose effort flew just over the bar.  

Moments later Avro came close themselves, with Kane Wallwork’s free kick forcing goalkeeper Chris Thompson into a smart save down to his left.

The Ro’s then had a shout for a penalty late in the first half when goalkeeper Thompson clattered into forward Louis Potts and didn’t seem to get much of the ball, but this was waved away by the referee.

It was Potts who arguably had the best chance of the half when he found himself in a great position down the right just two minutes before the break, but his shot was dragged wide of the far post.

In terms of second-half action, there wasn’t much to report on until Mossley had a fantastic opportunity 20 minutes from time when Eden Bailey broke down the right and cut the ball back towards the onrushing Oumar Camara, who could not direct his shot on target.

The hosts then had a chance of their own to win it just four minutes from time when Muis Bibire Bello was agonisingly close to finding the net, his volley from the edge of the box was deflected onto the post.

A whisker away from stealing all three points for the home side, which would have been a tad harsh on The Lilywhites, who did enough to earn a draw.
