Match Report: Broughton Park 35-15 Glossop

Glossop got off to a sprightly start away at Broughton Park and after retaining possession from the kick off, prop Connor Grimes crashed over to give the Hillmen an early 5-0 lead.

Within a few minutes though, the home side responded with a try under the posts, which they converted to lead 7-5

After some great inter-passing between backs and forwards, Glossop flyer Finn Winterbottom then sprinted over to see the visitors lead 7-10

Glossop were then dealt a double blow as they lost reliable kicker Tom Dearnaley through illness and then left wing Johnston to a yellow card.

Park made their numerical advantage pay as their number 8 crashed over from a 5 metre scrum, the try was converted to see Park lead 14-10

Glossop were dominating both the lineouts and the scrums with stand in skipper Sam Gibson leading from the front, with some punishing tackles. 

However, Glossop were guilty of missing their one on one tackles too often and this saw Park get two further tries before the break, to lead 24-10 at half time.

After the re-start, Grimes got his second for Glossop, when he finished off some powerful forward drives, to reduce the deficit to 24-15

Unfortunately after that it was only the home side that scored again, with a try from a quickly taken tap penalty and two penalties.

Glossop's young back trio of Taylor, Winterbottom and in particular Dylan Johnston excited the crowd with some dazzling running but as in the previous week, they just couldn't finish the moves off with scores.

The final score of 35-15 will leave coaches Dan Clark and Kit Brammer with some serious thinking to do, as Glossop search for that illusive first win of the season.
