Match Report: Droylsden 7-0 Thornton Cleveleys

The Bloods were unstoppable on Saturday, putting seven past Thornton Cleveleys to keep up their unbeaten record at the Butchers Arms in emphatic fashion with some incredible strikes from Dave Pace’s side.

Droylsden fell to a 3-1 defeat in the reverse fixture, falling victim to Cleveleys’ counter-attacking performance, but at the weekend, they made sure not to make the same mistakes. The Bloods put on a controlled and dominating attacking display from the first minute.

The first came from Sheriff Njie, tapping home from a cross from George Kattah in the 12th minute, before adding his second 13 minutes later. And the Bloods didn’t have to wait long for their third when Tawab Djankpata smashed one home from outside the area. A first goal of the season for the fullback, who put in a fantastic display for the home side.

The fourth came via Ben Lowe, five minutes before halftime, who’s cross into the box found the goal after first striking the post. Lowe added his second of the game in the second half, with a brilliant free kick from well outside the box.

The goal of the game came for Droylsden’s sixth, when the captain, Elvis Amoakwa, unleashed a venomous effort from distance with his weaker foot, kissing the post before nestling into the back of the net.

The scoring was then wrapped up by George Kattah, after pressuring the keeper into a mistake and walking the ball into the goal to end an afternoon of scintillating football for Droylsden.

That win keeps Droylsden in the playoff places, seven points adrift from league leaders Holker Old Boys who have a game in hand.

The Bloods then followed this up with a 4-1 win over AFC Blackpool in the first round of the Edward Case League Cup, a replay after the game was abandoned in the 75th minute the previous week for a floodlight failure.

In that abandoned game, George Kattah scored a hat trick and went close to replicating this as he scored Droylsden’s opening two goals. However, he was unable to grab his third as Sheriff Njie and Nellson Van wrapped up the scoring for Droylsden.

Dave Pace’s side is back in action this Saturday at home to Nelson who sits one place and six points above Droylsden in the league table, although the Bloods have a game in hand on them.
