Match Report: Glossop 19-42 Tarleton

Glossop were first on the score sheet against the high flying visitors, with scoring machine Connor Grime powering his way over early on. 

The conversion from Dearnaley was unsuccessful and Tarleton responded quickly with a try of their own which they did add the extras to, to lead 7-5. 

The visiting forwards then put together a series of punishing drives which they finished off with their second try to extend their lead to 12-5. A penalty then pushed them further ahead to 15-5.  

For two teams poles apart in their league, the game seemed evenly matched and power house prop Grime, went over again, swatting defenders away like flies to grab his second. 

This time Tom Dearnaley did convert to bring the score closer at 12-15 which was the half time score. 

After the break Tarleton did begin to show their class though and a try on the left wing saw them lead 22-12.

They followed that up with their best try of the game, when after some excellent handling, a delicate chip and regather was collected for their bonus point try and they pulled away at 27-12.

The visitors then really took advantage of a tiring Glossop and two further tries followed, including one from a smartly taken tap penalty. 

With the score at 37-12 to Tarleton, The Hillmen finally applied some pressure of their own and after getting good field position, camped out in the opponents 22, until outstanding Skipper, Zak Round found the gap and went in under the posts. Finn Winterbottom converted to reduce the score to 19-37.

The visitors had the last say in the match though, with a try out wide to leave a final score of 19-42 as they showed why they are up at the top of the table. 

Man of the Match Grime, should be rightly proud of his performance, not only in this game but in the season overall.
