New Mills progress to next round of Macron Cup

Church Lane, New Mills FC

New Mills got their first win of the season on Tuesday (October 17) when they defeated Bacup Borough 2-0 in the first round of the Macron Cup.

The Millers took the lead just after the hour mark through Max Lewens, and it was two goals in two minutes for them when Sam Deering doubled their lead moments later.

Visitors Bacup did put up somewhat of a fightback towards the end of the game, winning a penalty with just 15 minutes to go, but this was saved brilliantly by Billy O’Carroll in the New Mills goal to keep them two goals to the good.

The Millers went on to keep a clean sheet and ran out as 2-0 winners at Church Lane, which meant they progressed to the next round of the Macron Cup.

A crucial win for the men from Derbyshire, who have had a tough start to the season to say the least, taking only three points from 15 games in the league and enduring a 10-2 loss at the hands of league leaders Brocton just a few weeks ago.

Hopefully, this win can give The Millers some much-needed momentum going into their league match this weekend when they travel to Winsford United on Saturday.
