Oldham get Gateshead in FA Cup

Oldham Athletic have been drawn against National League North side Gateshead in the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup.

The Latics, who are struggling at the foot of League Two, will travel to Tyneside to take on the promotion-chasing Heed at the International Stadium, with the tie due to be played on Saturday, November 9.

Gateshead are currently ninth in the sixth tier of English football, just a solitary point outside the six play-off positions, with 20 points from their 12 league games so far.

The Heed are managed by 35-year-old former Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson, who is also still registered as a player. He is in his first season at the helm, with Ian Watson as his assistant.

The club, who reached the FA Cup third round in 2014/15 for the first time before losing 7-0 at West Bromwich Albion, were demoted from the National League over the summer due to financial irregularities.

Dino Maamria's Oldham, who were number 30 in the draw, are currently 21st in the fourth tier, having won just two of their 14 league games so far.

The Latics' FA Cup first-round tie at Hampton & Richmond Borough last term was screened live on BT Sport on a Monday evening.

The live draw took place on Monday evening on BBC Two and was conducted by former England and Chelsea women's player Karen Carney and ex-Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford.

As well as a place in the second round at stake, there is £36,000 up for grabs for the winner of the tie.
