Premier League midfielder hails Ashton United manager Banim

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Dale Stephens has described Ashton United manager Jody Banim as 'the best player' during his time on loan at Droylsden.

In a bid to gain experience and develop him as a player, the now 30-year-old spent periods on loan with Hyde United and Droylsden during his time with Bury in the 2007-2008 season.

Reflecting on his time with the Bloods, Stephens spoke to Albion's official website and praised Banim's talent. "There was a boy called Jody [Banim], who was their best player. Talent wise he was very good, and he had a massive amount of potential. He was a few years older than me, and unfortunately I don’t think he ever made the step up."

Banim went on to become something of a non-league legend, setting an English record by scoring in 14 consecutive games.

The 41-year-old also spent time with Shrewsbury Town, Accrington Stanley, Torquay United and Altrincham, before ending his playing career with Ashton United. He has since made the step-up to management at Hurst Cross, guiding the club to their highest ever league position after claiming promotion to the National League North in 2018.
