Raynes Flees The Nest

Ashton United defender Michael Raynes has left the club, having made 31 appearances during his time at Hurst Cross.

The experienced defender, who has played in the Football League with Stockport County, Oxford United and Carlisle United to name a few, scored two goals for the Robins - both against South Shields.

Raynes, 34, has since signed a two-year deal with Stockport Town of the North West Counties, First Division South.

His time will fulfil a playing/coaching role at the club, and will link up with former County team mate Paul Turnbull, who is the manager of Town.

Stockport finished 11th last season.
