Review: Stalybridge Snooker League

Here are the latest developments in the Stalybridge Snooker League.

The final week of 2019 saw Staly Labour play Hyde CC, St Peters travel to Denton CC and Mossley B play Hyde Club.

Mossley A have a free week. In the Snooker League there were 4-1 wins for Denton CC and Hyde CC and Hyde Club beat Mossley A 3-2. In the Whist League there were wins for Mossley B and St Peters.

The final leagues for 2019 show Hyde CC on top with 36 points from 11 games, with Denton CC on 31 and St Peters on 30. St Peters have a game in hand. We still have half a season to go.

In the Whist League Mossley B are now top with 14 points and we have Denton CC, Hyde Club and St Peters tied on 12 points, but St Peters have a game in hand on their rivals.

The season so far has been made very interesting by the two new clubs and it can  be seen particularly in the whist league. The snooker is also very close. The league has also picked up its first sponsor as our Whist League and Taylor Cup are  now sponsored by The Lions Bar 91 of Stalybridge.

2020 started with week 13 matches and St Peters played Mossley A, Mossley B played Staly Labour and Hyde Club played Denton CC. In the Snooker League we had 3-2 wins for St Peters and Staly Labour but Denton won 4-1. In the Whist League there were wins for Mossley A and Denton CC.

The final week of the first half of the league saw St Peters play Mossley B, Mossley A play Hyde CC and Staly Labour play Hyde Club. In the Snooker League there were 3-2 wins for St Peters, Mossley A and Hyde Club. In the Whist League there were wins for St Peters and Hyde CC.

These results mean that after 12 matches, Hyde CC lead the Snooker League on 38 points, followed by St Peters on 36 points and Denton CC on 35 points. In the Whist League St Peters, Denton CC and Mossley B are joint top sharing 16 points, with Hyde Club and Mossley A just two points behind. It is very close at the half way stages of both leagues.

There was a management meeting on 20th January when the handicaps for the next seven weeks matches were decided.
