Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, has signed up to run this year’s Milltown to Moors Oldham Half Marathon, along with the leader of Oldham Council, Sean Fielding.
The 13.1-mile Milltown Races Oldham Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 27th October.
More than 350 runners are already set to take part in the race, which is renowned for being one of the most challenging half marathons in the UK.
The route to Saddleworth takes in a 1100ft ascent and offers runners stunning views of the Peak District National Park. There are still places left for the half, which starts in Oldham Town Centre at 9.30am. Members of the local community are encouraged to come out, take in the race day atmosphere and cheer the runners on.
Burnham, who was elected as Mayor of Greater Manchester in May 2017, has held Ministerial positions at the Home Office, Department of Health and the Treasury. He is running for a homeless charity, Real Change. Fielding is also running to support Real Change.
Race Director Patrick Wolstenholme says: “Every year the Oldham half gets bigger and better, and we’re looking forward to this year’s event. We’re hoping to fill every one of the 500 places that are available to ensure the 2019 race is the best yet.”
Entry costs £27. Closing date for online entries is 18th October 2018, but on the day entries will be available between 7.30-9am.
There will be traffic management in place at the start of the event, which could cause some short delays on Yorkshire Street, Yorkshire Street to Prince Street, Bottom O’th’ Moor (Mumps Bridge) and Shaw Road junctions of Huddersfield Road.
