Running Bee Foundation grants are now open

Groups and organisations are now invited to apply for grants from the Running Bee Foundation.

The Foundation was launched in December 2018 by Sports Tours International - The UK's leading sports travel business.

Created in memory of much-loved community figure Mo Done, the Running Bee Foundation aims to improve the health and well being of local residents and to help tackle the challenge of childhood obesity.

It does this by making grants available to community groups and local charities in the towns and cities at the following nine events:

MAY:

- Knowsley Hall 10k and family fun run

JUNE:

- Tour of Tameside:

- X-Trail 10k

- Hell on the Fell race

SEPTEMBER:

OCTOBER:

In a bid to inspire the next generation to live a happier and healthier life, Sports Tours International ambassadors Stacey Copeland and Rhianna Parkinson have delivered motivational speeches to pupils in a number of schools across the borough.

The Running Bee Foundation also developed a partnership with Tameside Schools Sport Partnership to launch a 7 Mile Challenge, in which pupils from 23 schools either walked, ran or jogged seven miles over one term.

Copeland, a professional boxer and commonwealth champion, also led a spin class at Hatton's Gym in Hyde ahead of the Tour of Tameside in June.
