A Tameside teen recently made his debut for the Scotland national futsal team.
Noah Lucas, from Mossley (third from the right), jetted off to Croatia last week to take part in ‘Futsal Week’, an international tournament which sees eight nations battle it out for the trophy.
The tournament was a warmup for Scotland’s upcoming FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifiers, which take place in Denmark this April.
The 19-year-old first took to the court against Morocco, before going on to start in clashes with Switzerland and Malta, scoring his first ever international goal against the latter.
Despite losing all three games, Noah revealed the experience was invaluable:
“This week was a great learning experience as I made my international debut on Thursday against Morocco.
“Our team has some 17, 18 and 19-year-olds, and this was about gaining crucial experience moving forward.
“I was pleased to score my first international goal in the final seconds of our final game against Malta.”
Noah becomes the second member of the Lucas family to feature for Scotland, after older brother Oscar did so at the Futsal Euro 2026 qualifiers back in 2024.
The teenager was joined on the court last week by former St Thomas More student Kai Lawless (far right), who is no stranger to the international stage, having also played a part in Scotland’s Euro 2026 qualifying campaign.
Noah’s attention now turns back to club futsal, as his side Sala Futsal Club – based in Tameside – seek promotion to Tier 2 of the national futsal system.
