The Tameside 5K festival returns

Last Saturday saw the second edition of the highly anticipated Tameside 5K Festival take place at the Tameside Cycle Circuit in Ashton, which was organised jointly by the Local Runners Podcast and Active Tameside. 

This year's event was bigger than ever, with over 200 runners taking part across the four main races. 

The day saw many runners break their PB’s, including Salford Harriers’ Harry Wakefield who raced to victory in the ‘A race’, setting a course record with his time of 14 minutes and 15 seconds. 

In the ‘B race’, East Cheshire Harriers’ Callum Fricker picked up the victory with a time of 16:56. 

Elsewhere, the ‘C race’ saw another East Cheshire Harriers win in the form of Daniel Kavanagh, who beat Royton Roadrunners’ Brett Spivey to the finish by just 17 seconds with his time of 19:11. 

Finally, Ciaran Molloy was first to finish in the ‘D race’, with a time of 23:06. 

This year's edition of the event also saw the addition of the family mile, which encouraged youngsters to get involved along with their families, with over 40 runners taking part. 

Following the event, co-race director Callum Parkinson told The Reporter: 

“Overall, the day was a great success. 

“244 people entered the 5K, with a virtually 50/50 male/female split, and we’re hoping to make our next event even bigger and better.”
