Tuesday Football Roundup

Our sides were in action on Tuesday night in various competitions.

In the National League North, Curzon Ashton claimed a massive three points with a 3-0 win at Chester. An Adam Thomas double inside 25 minutes was followed up by a last minute effort from Craig Hobson.

In the NPL Premier Division, Stalybridge Celtic returned from Lancaster City empty handed after a 2-0 defeat.

The hosts took the lead on 16 minutes through Sam Fishburn and made sure of the victory with 17 minutes to go through Paul Dawson.

Elsewhere, Hyde United crusied to a 3-0 victory over Grantham Town at Ewen Fields. Goals came courtesy of Tom Pratt and and Liam Tongue double. It was the Tigers first game since manager Dave McGurk resigned on Monday.

In the NPL West, Glossop North End shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at City of Liverpool. Rory Fallon’s opener for Glossop was cancelled out by Nathan Burke.

In the FA Cup Preliminary Round replay, Mossley were heading to the next round after taking a 2-0 lead against Lower Breck through Andy Keogh and Declan Evans, however the referee abandoned the game in the dying stages due to an incident which both clubs have yet to comment on. Lower Breck tweeted: At 2-0 down tonight the referee abandoned the game…Ourselves &@MossleyAFC  have been advised of the reasons and we won’t comment till his report is issued…Thanks to @MossleyAFC for there (sic) hospitality and best of luck for the season gents."

  • Weekend football round-up: Cantello clinches late victory

Droylsden retained top spot in the NWCFL First Division North in dramatic fashion on Saturday, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Luis Cantello.

  • Curzon chairman steps down

Curzon Ashton have confirmed the resignation of club chairman John Clayton, who has stepped down from his role due to ‘personal circumstances’.

  • Latics diary: The cursing of dreams

A few weeks ago on these pages, after Latics had lost three games in a row, conceding three goals in each game, I wrote them off for the season. Consolidation achieved, but with an unfulfilled objective to entertain and compete. Latics have won four games and drawn two, including last week’s stand-off against leaders Bromley at Hayes Lane, and the season is back in the balance. Tranmere Rovers were there to be hammered at Prenton Park, and Latics obliged. Tequila!

  • Tranmere Rovers 1 – 3 Oldham Athletic: Big day out for Latics ends in big win

This was one of the good days. Latics were dominant: craftier, harder-working, more resolute and more ruthless than their opponents, better man-for-man, better as a team.
