Tuesday Night Football Review

Our local sides were in action on Tuesday night and suffered mixed fortunes.

In the NPL Premier Division, Hyde United were unable to build on Saturday's draw at Scarborough Athletic and fell to a 3-2 defeat at Radcliffe. The Tigers took the lead twice in the fixture through Brad Roscoe and a Liam Tongue penalty, however the hosts showed their steel to take the three points thanks to Jean Louis Akpa-Akpro, Matty Crothers and Callum Gribbin. Jim Gannon's side are 19th in the table and have a tough test at home to fifth-placed Warrington Town on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Stalybridge Celtic fought from an early setback to take a share of the points at Bower Fold. Gainsborough Trinity took the lead in the third minute through Jovon Makama, but Celtic hit back with 15 minutes remaining and claimed a valuable point thanks to Stephen Brogan. Simon Haworth's side are 15th in the table and travel to Witton Albion on Saturday, who snatched a 90th minute winner at Ashton United on Tuesday night. The Robins looked destined to take a share of the points at Hurst Cross, but Robert Hopley popped up and converted from Jesse Dowling's set-piece. Michael Clegg's side, 16th in the table, travel to 14th-placed Basford United on Saturday.

In the NPL West, Glossop North End returned to action following Saturday's postponed game. And Stuart Mellish's side returned from 1874 Northwich with the three points thanks to a 1-0 win, courtesy of Finley Stanyer's close range effort in the 39th minute. The Hillmen are 13th in the table and don't have a fixture this weekend. 

Mossley boosted their playoff hopes with a much-needed victory over Prescot Cables. The Lilywhites had gone without a win in their previous three games, however they got back on track with a comprehensive display at Seel Park and fought from behind to secure a 4-1 victory. A superb second half from the Lilywhites saw Andy Keogh grab a brace, before a Dclan Evans penalty and Connor Morris strike in the dying stages put the icing on the cake. Mossley are also without a fixture this weekend.
