Tuesday Night Football Review: Curzon And Hyde Slip To Defeats In Cup Competitions

It was a night to forget for two of our local sides, as Curzon Ashton and Hyde United were eliminated from the FA Trophy and Cheshire Senior Cup respectively.

Curzon made the trip to Altrincham in the third round following Saturday's postponement, but they were unable to book their place in the next round against the winners of Wrexham and Scunthorpe United after a 1-0 defeat.

The only goal of the game arrived in the 72nd minute when the Robins' Toby Mullarkey netted for the hosts. Had it not been for an inspired performance from Curzon 'keeper Chris Renshaw, the scoreline could have been even heavier for the Nash.

Adam Lakeland's side will be looking to bounce back on Boxing Day when Southport visit the Tameside Stadium in the National League North.

Elsewhere, in the Cheshire Senior Cup, Hyde United fell to a 3-1 defeat at Macclesfield courtesy of a James Berry masterclass.

Despite taking a fortuitous lead in the 20th minute through Edy Maieco, Hyde retained their lead for little more than two minutes as James Berry fired home to draw the Silkmen level. The sides went into the half-time break on level terms, but Macclesfield showed their quality in the second half and took the lead in the 70th minute through Berry's second of the evening.

The game was put to bed with five minutes remaining when Berry slotted home to secure his hat-trick.

The Tigers return to action in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division on Boxing Day with a home clash against local rivals Stalybridge Celtic.

Well, here we go again, Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim, 14 months into his tenure.

  • Wasteful Nash beaten on the road

Curzon Ashton’s miserable record against Kidderminster Harriers continued on Saturday, as a single goal was enough to see the hosts get the better of the Nash at Aggborough.
