Fire crews descended on Bayley St in Stalybridge this morning, following reports of a fire 'involving an electricity substation'.
A GMFRS spokesperson said that three fire engines were called to the scene at around 8:50am.
Clarence Street in Stalybridge is currently closed in both directions from Tame St to Bayley St/Whitelands Road due to the ongoing incident. Diversions are in place.
Members of the public are being urged to avoid the area where possible.
