Elizabeth McCann update: Ashton man changes plea to guilty of all charges

Simon Goold, of Manchester Road, Ashton, appeared at Manchester Crown Court this morning, Tuesday 21 February, for the second day of his trial.

The 52-year-old entered guilty pleas to murder, rape, sexual assault and two counts of assault by penetration, despite denying all five counts yesterday.

After making confessions of guilt in the jury's presence, the jury expressed that they had agreed on their verdict and found the defendant guilty on all charges.

This comes after Prosecutor Nick Johnson KC yesterday described Goold's initial plea as 'the lying account of someone intent on sexually violent and sadistic behaviour'.

He also said: "The defendant obtained sexual enjoyment in her [Elizabeth's] humiliation, a pleasure in inflicting injury and pain and provoking her fear."

Goold is due to be sentenced at the same court tomorrow, Wednesday 22 February.
