Fire involving plastics and computer parts at recycling plant sparked warning to local residents.
Firefighters were involved in tackling a huge blaze at a Stalybridge recycling business for almost seven hours yesterday.
The fire broke out at 8am at Sims Lifecycle Services on Northend Road in the town.
Huge plumes of smoke drifted across the location prompting fire services to warn local residents to keep windows and doors closed.
A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 8am on Saturday, September 3, firefighters were called out to a fire in the yard of a commercial property on Northend Road, Stalybridge.
“Four fire engines and an aerial unit attended the scene where a fire involving mixed recycling, containing plastics and computer parts, had broken out. A large amount of smoke was coming from the fire, and people in the area were advised to keep windows and doors closed.
“Firefighters used hose reels, two jets and a thermal image camera to extinguish the fire and were at the scene for up to seven hours.”
