Funding boost for Tameside community projects

The successful community groups.

Eight groups were recently successfully granted funding at the Tameside Communities Grant event.

The annual event, organised by Tameside Council’s Community Safety Service, was held at St Paul’s Church, Stalybridge, for community organisations in the East of Tameside; Stalybridge, Dukinfield and Mossley.

After listening to presentations from each group present, residents voted to determine which projects would be successful.

The winners were: Safe Space Wellbeing Lab, Stalybridge Celtic Foundation, Heyrod Residents Association, and Stalybridge Community Club & Kitchen – all in Stalybridge - and Mossley Band Social ClubMossley Monday Cluband Friends of the Vale - all in Mossley.

Tameside Deputy Civic Mayor Cllr Helen Bowden welcomed everyone and opened the event, followed by words of appreciation from Tameside Council Community Safety Team, who expressed his gratitude to all the communities who volunteer, helping to make Tameside a better place to live.

To qualify for funding, projects had to be based around one or more of three themes: preventing neighbourhood crime; reducing harm and offending; and strengthening communities and tackling inequalities.

The project presentations highlighted the value of each group’s work, with several new applicants participating for the first time this year. There was clear willingness to support one another, particularly among newer groups, demonstrating community cohesion and a shared commitment to developing sustainable communities.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity Cllr Stephen Homer said: “Community organisations are a vital part of a strong, well-connected, and safe borough. The community grants are an excellent way to support their valuable work and involve local residents in promoting safer, more engaged communities together.”
