Jack is back for Warrington Wolves

A former Audenshaw School rugby star made his long-awaited return from injury last week, helping Warrington Wolves to a 26-14 victory over Castleford Tigers in Betfred Super League.

Jack Johnson, 23, has spent a considerable period out of action following a leg break during a training session in March 2018.

The double leg-break arrived at the worst possilbe time for Johnson, who, according to coach Steve Price, was ‘really knocking on the door’ for first team selection.

Having spent the entirety of last season on the sidelines, the winger made his return to action at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle last week.

Johnson impressed while playing for partner club Rochdale Hornets in the Championships earlier in the season.

Now, the former Audenshaw ace is hoping to put the past behind him and kick on throughout the rest of the season.

Speaking to Warrington’s media team following the win, Johnson said: “It’s great to be back; it’s been a long, long time since I last played and it’s been made even better with the win.

“I had an inclin prior to Tuesday, and the on Thursday for team run I found out I’d got the nod.

“It was massive win tonight. We dug in there and defended for pretty much the whole of the second half. We always seeemed to be on our try line, but we dug in and got a very pleasing win, because it’s a tough place to come to.”

Warrington return to Super League action on Saturday, May 18 with a home clash against Hull FC.

The Wire are currently second in the table, having claimed 22 points from their opening 14 fixtures, which includes 11 victories and three defeats.

Johnson is one of several former Audenshaw pupils who has gone on to forge a professional career in Rugby League.

Gene Ormsby, 26, previously played for Warrington before joining North Wales Crusaders and Huddersfield Giants on loan deals.

He then joined the latter permanently, before spending a brief period with Oldham, and then joining Barrow as a free agent in 2018.

Current records indicate Ormsby is currently without a club.
