Super swimmers make a splash

A group of Stalybridge swimmers came away with a haul of medals, plaques and accolades after shining in Stretford.

The swimmers, from Stalybridge Amateur Swimming Club, took part in the Trafford Early Bird Meet, one of the first swimming meets of the new season.

The youngsters grabbed a super stash of medals and personal bests.

Iona Ellis, Cliodhna Mclure and Lelila Mclure made their first open meet debut, and all swam fabulous races, while smashing a host of PBs. 

Leah Patel blew all of her PBs out the water, especially in her 50m freestyle.

Ryan Gregson, in the 15 and Over section, took bronze in 50m breaststroke and a plaque in the 100m free style. 

Phoebe Heywood, in the 12 Years Age Group, took two golds in the 50m and 100m freestyle, plus bronze in 50m back stroke. 

Olivia Hunt, in the Nine Years Age Group, took bronze in 100m breast stroke a plaque in 50m breaststroke. 

Harriet Newton, in the 12 Years Age Group, picked up bronze in 100m butterfly, and plaques in 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle. 

Sophie Cesarz, also in the 12 Years Age Group, took gold in 50m breaststroke, silver in 100m breaststroke, and plaques in 100m IM, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 50m fly. 

Lydia Williams, in the 13 Years Age Group, took home silver in 100m butterfly, and plaques in 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. 

Kyle-Jai Mistry, in the 12 Years Age Group, took home two plaques in the 100m IM and 50m breaststroke. 

Stalybridge coach Rachel Hunt said: “Massive improvements are being made and the swimmers’ times are showing this.

“I lost count of all the PBs that were broken. Super well done to the guys. They did themselves and the club proud.”
