Martin Emery

Martin has worked in the radio industry for over 33 years.

His love of broadcasting began as a child - when he’d sneak a portable transistor set into his bedroom to listen to ‘Junior Choice’ with Ed Stewart on Radio One - and after being taken to an open day at the new BBC Manchester premises on Oxford Road in the early 80s, he knew this is where he’d love to work one day.

At the start of the 90s, whilst doing his A-levels, Martin was offered the chance to visit BBC GMR (now Radio Manchester) and ‘have a look around’. He ended up staying there for six years “doing a bit of everything” - and eventually got to present his first ever radio programme.

In 1995, while still at university, commercial radio came calling and Martin joined the Manchester station Fortune 1458 to present a weekend show. After graduating, this led to a full-time career broadcasting on stations across the north-west of England and beyond - including Imagine FM, Tower FM, Wish FM, Wire FM, Radio Wave, The Bay, Revolution, 2BR, The Bee, Signal One, The Pulse and Silk FM.

Martin also works as an audio producer - creating promotions and jingles for radio stations - and over the years has mixed documentaries and features for the likes of BBC Radio One, BBC Radio Five Live and BBC World Service.

A career highlight came in 2013 when he was asked to be the voice of Forever FM presenter ‘Andy’ in both series of ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’ on BBC1.

In late 2020, Martin joined Tameside Radio to present the mid-morning programme - which not only takes a look at life across Tameside - but also features a great mix of music - as well as the chance to learn something new with the ‘School Time Options Quiz’.

You can hear Martin each weekday on Tameside Radio between 11am and 3pm, and follow Martin on twitter @martin_emery
