A 2.5 magnitude earthquake has been recorded in the High Peak this evening, Tuesday 2 January.
According to the British Geological Survey, it was at a depth of 3km and centred around 2.5km north-west of Buxton's centre.
On the Earthquake Magnitude Scale, 2.5ML is defined as "usually not felt, but can be recorded by seismograph."
There have been no reports of this event being felt by members of the public at this time.
