The popular event had to be cancelled last year because of Covid-19 restrictions - but Glossop's big bonfire and firework display will be back in 2021.

It’s organised by Glossop Round Table and raises money for local charities.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday 6 November at Manor Park, starting from 4pm.

It will feature a big display, which will see £7,000 worth of fireworks set off over a 20-minute period. There will also be a smaller display.

Other attractions include fairground rides, food stalls and a bar.

Edward Siddall, from Glossop Round Table, said: "This year it will be really special. We’re hoping to make a big comeback with a laser display. The Bonfire raised £19,000 for good causes and local charities in 2019 and this year we want to try to raise a similar amount. It’s part of the social calendar in Glossop.”

He continued: "We really do need to get it back to what it was this year. It’s always gone ahead in the past forty or so years, but sadly last year it had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.

"We also want people to visit the Glossop Round Table page on Facebook as they can have a say about where the money raised goes. In the past we’ve given money to Mountain Rescue Teams, Age Concern and Glossop Foodbank”.

Tickets will be sold in advance to reduce pressure on the gate. It’s hoped the event will attract families.

In the past, the bonfire has attracted crowds of up to five thousand people.

Edward added: "People need a big event to let off steam as lockdown was hard on a lot of us. We’d love to see a large number of people turn out for the event to support our charities.”
