Local animal sanctuary desperately needs your help

A local animal sanctuary is appealing for help, to get a head start on what will be a tough winter for them.

Haywill looks after more than 100 animals at their Whitfield and Broadbottom centres. Their average food bill totals £2,000 per month.

Lynn Haydon-Williams, who runs Haywill Animal Rescue, told us: “I am personally dreading winter this year. We rely on donations and almost everyone has no money to spare. It’s going to be a real struggle. But there are ways people can help us if they can.

“As well as food donations we’re also looking for paving slabs and wood to repair animal houses and enclosures. You can volunteer and it doesn’t have to be with the animals. We need people to fund raise for us, do some DIY and we desperately need somebody to do our grant writing.

“We’re on Operation Clean-Up Glossop at the moment. We’ve been using a JCB to clear the muck heap, so if you can help us with that, we’d be grateful. Everyone is welcome here. Animals don’t judge.”

Lynn is currently looking after more than 100 animals at Haywill in Glossop and the Etherow Centre in Broadbottom.

She says more people are realising they can’t afford to feed their pets and are just turning them out on the streets to fend for themselves.

Lynn said: “I can understand that if it comes down to feeding your children or your pets, you would choose your children. But please don’t neglect your pets or release them into the wild. Bring them to us and we will do all we can to help. But we really do need the help of Chronicle readers to continue what we are doing.”
