Avro suffer cup defeat

Manchester Premier Cup First Round: Irlam 1-1 Avro (Irlam win on penalties)

Avro were knocked out of the Manchester Premier Cup at Irlam on Tuesday, falling to defeat on penalties after the game ended 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes.

A game of few chances suddenly sparked to life in the final few minutes, with Irlam taking the lead in the 88th minute after scoring from a corner, before Avro - who were reduced to ten men earlier in the game - grabbed a 92nd minute equaliser through Adam Latham's strike.

With the score level at the full-time whistle, the game was taken straight to penalties, which Irlam won 7-6.

Avro return to North West Counties Premier Division action on Saturday with a trip to Winsford United, who are currently two points above Avro in 10th spot.
