Stalybridge Celtic got back to winning ways in the Northern Premier League West on Monday with a 2-1 win away to City of Liverpool.
Celtic got off to the perfect start when Ashley Leather opened his account for the club after just six minutes, heading in a cross from Matty Bryan to put his side ahead.
Despite a couple of strong efforts on their goal, visitors Celtic managed to keep the hosts at bay for the majority of the match, but they finally found a way through in the 73rd minute when Jack Hont turned in a corner and drew his side level.]
Just as it looked like the match was heading for a draw, up stepped substitute Joe Edwards to make himself the hero in the 86th minute of time, firing the ball into the bottom right corner and sealing the win.
Following the win, Celtic midfielder Aaron Chalmers called for fans to be patient, and get behind the team:
“There’s been a lot of people talking about players not giving their all, and doubting players that are here,” Chalmers told Celtic’s YouTube channel.
“We don’t need that, fans need to start getting behind us- we need the fans more than they’ll ever know.
“We’ve proved tonight (Monday) how much we can fight, we’ve dug deep- not just for us and the fans but for the staff who put in so much work behind the scenes, and we want to repay them.”
Next up for James Kinsey’s side is a home match against highflyers Bootle on Saturday.
