Stalybridge Celtic eased into the semi-final of the Cheshire Senior Cup on Wednesday after a 6-0 rout away to League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

Lewis Rawsthorn opened the scoring on 14 minutes, capitalising on an error at the back before calmly slotting the ball home.

The visitors’ lead was doubled moments later when Joe Duckworth headed in a cross from Kyle Brownhill to put his side in control.

Less than two minutes later, Rawsthorn added his second and Celtic’s third with a powerful strike from just outside the area.

Joe Duckworth then completed his brace early in the second half, putting his side his four goals to the good.

Benni Smales-Branthwaite made it five soon after, cutting inside from the left and curling the ball into the far right corner before doubling his tally for the evening ten minutes from time to complete an emphatic victory.

Following the win, goal scorer Joe Duckworth told the club’s YouTube channel:

“We didn’t know what to expect from them tonight- we weren’t sure what team they’d put out.

“But we stayed professional throughout and we were deserved winners.

“It was a great experience for us to come here and play on their first team pitch, and it’s always nice to get a couple of goals and keep a clean sheet as well.”

Jon Macken’s side's attention turns back to the league this weekend as they travel to local rivals Avro.
