Following Baby Loss Awareness Week, (October 9 to October 15), last Sunday saw the annual match between Angels United FC and Sands United Hull & East Yorkshire take place at Seel Park, the home of Mossley AFC.
Both teams come together each year to run the heartwarming event which sees both sides battle it out for the Baby Loss Awareness Week trophy.
Angels United are a Manchester based football club that was set up in 2020 by 13 dads from different walks of life with one thing in common, they had suffered the heartbreak of losing a baby or child at any age or stage of pregnancy.
The 13 co-founders came together with the idea to use their shared experience to help others.
Their aim was to use the power of football to break the silence surrounding baby and child loss while giving dads and other family members a safe space to talk and support each other.
Taking on Angels United were Sand United Hull & East Yorkshire, a side based across the Pennines which was set up back in 2019 for the same reason- to support men who have suffered baby loss.
Sunday saw Angels United pick up their first win since the event’s inception in 2021, coming away with a 5-3 victory on the day.
This year’s event was particularly poignant for Angels United player Olly Monks, as the match took place on the birthday of his twin daughters Poppy and Dottie, who came into the world sleeping back in 2019.
