Droylsden boxer Billy Deniz picked up the biggest win of his career at the weekend with a convincing points win over Ezra Arenyeka at the Co-op Live Arena.
The 25-year-old light-heavyweight kicked off a night of exciting action in his home city with a 79-74 victory, extending his unblemished pro record to 14 wins.
After a tricky opening round ‘Turkish Tyson’ took full control of the bout, going on to condemn his Nigerian opponent to only his second ever defeat.
“That first round threw me off, with him doing all that stuff,” admitted Deniz following the fight.
“I thought hang on, this isn’t Ezra, and it just threw me off a bit, which worked in his favour.
“And that’s why I think I lost that round, I was a bit silly, but after the second round I warmed into it, turned it on and became victorious.”
The win undoubtedly marks the biggest moment in Deniz’s career, but the fleet-footed fighter is already hungry for more.
“I’m 14-0 now and I’m only 25, there’s still a lot of fights for me there and a lot of challenges for me to have.
“That was another test for me tonight and I came through it, and I trust in my team to guide me to titles.
“That’s what I’m striving for, my coach wouldn’t have me in the gym if I couldn’t win a British title, so that’s the goal.”
