Match Report: Droylsden 1-0 Nelson

Droylsden picked up an important win at the weekend, beating third-place Nelson FC 1-0.

This puts the Bloods three points behind the Admirals with a game in hand, but they are still in contention for promotion. They had new signing George Kattah to thank, scoring the only goal in a good display for Dave Pace’s side.

Both sides had mixed results coming into this game, with Droylsden picking up eight points from their last five league matches, as opposed to Nelson, who had picked up seven points. This made this an even more significant fixture, with each needing a win.

It was an even first half, with each side having opportunities however, neither was able to take hold of the game. Jordan Latham was called upon several times to keep Nelson at bay as the Bloods tested Christopher Thompson in the opposition’s goal.

Dave Pace’s side started fast after the break, with Nellson Van hitting the post after three minutes. And the home side didn’t have to wait long for the opener, with Kattah scoring in the 56th minute, getting on the end of a clever flick from Ben Lowe before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Kattah has made a tremendous start to life at the Butchers Arms; this was his fifth goal in as many games since signing from Wythenshawe. His clinical finishing could prove to be pivotal in Pace’s title push.

Another new signing made their first appearance on Saturday, with Harry Shipton, who played for Droylsden last season, coming on as a substitute late in the game and helping the Bloods to pick up a key three points.

Droylsden next travel to West Yorkshire, taking on Steeton at the Marley Stadium, who picked up a win against Euxton Villa on Saturday after losing their previous nine league matches.
