Match Report: Glossop RUFC 20-27 Broughton Park

The Hillmen got off to a cracking start in this game, with great ball retention from the kick off, which saw wing Finn Winterbottom score in the corner after Captain Zak Round had made a great incursion into the line and deliver a subtle offload. 

Glossop were then guilty of not clearing their lines and a spilled ball saw Park respond with a try of their own, which was converted to see the visitors lead 7-5. 

The big Broughton  forwards then applied some sustained pressure which saw them eventually scramble over for another converted try to lead 14-5. 

Just before the break Glossop flyhalf Tom Dearnaley reduced the score to 14-8, with a well taken penalty.

After the break, the versatile Jon Tennant scampered over following a series of punishing drives by the home sides forwards. Dearnaley again converted and further reduced the deficit to 17-15.

Glossop then gave away a penalty for a high tackle and the impressive visitors kicker was again successful to extend their lead to 20-15. 

There was then a period of play where both defences were on top and the game was largely played in the middle of the pitch. Eventually though, Park forced a lineout in the Glossop 22 and they scored with a well taken move at the front of the lineout which caught Glossop napping. Again the Park kicker was on target and with time running out, extended their lead to 27-15. 

There was still time though for Glossop Man of the Match, Round to get a try of his own and secure his side a losing bonus point, which saw the visitors take home the win at 27-20.
