Following the resignation of Martin Coyne earlier today, Hyde United have confirmed the appointment of former Ashton United boss Michael Clegg.
Coyne left his post as Tigers boss after Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Rushall Olympic, which left the Ewen Fields club in the NPL Premier relegation zone.
Following his departure, Hyde chairman Steve Hartley commented:
“First and foremost Martin is a Hyde United fan, and he has always done what is best for the club.
“He can leave with his head held high in the knowledge that he gave it his best shot.
“I am really sorry it didn’t work out, but am pleased that he will remain with the club to continue the fantastic work he has done with the Juniors.”
Coyne is to be replaced by a man with an abundance of experience at this level, with Clegg boasting successful spells at Atherton Collieries, Ashton United, Warrington Rylands and Macclesfield FC.
The 41-year-old will go straight into the dugout on Tuesday night as The Tigers travel to Gainsborough Trinity.
Clegg joins the club on a contract which will see him through until the end of the season, and is to be assisted by current skipper Jack Redshaw.
