New running event comes to Tameside

A brand-new running event is coming to Tameside this October- the Tameside 5k Festival. 

The Local Runners Podcast have teamed up with Active Tameside to bring this new and exciting race to the local community. 

The event takes place at the Tameside Cycle Circuit on Richmond Street in Ashton-Under-Lyne on Saturday October 5. 

The 5K festival will involve six graded races, with the aim of accommodating runners of varying abilities. 

The first race of the day will be aimed at runners who can finish a 5K in under 16 minutes, whilst the final race will be aimed at those who run a sub-35-minute 5K. 

As well as this, there will also be a junior race, aimed at under 17s, with a cutoff point of 35 minutes. 

Another unique feature of the race is that there will be several pacers present on the day, including a 30-minute, 25-minute, 20-minute and 18-minute pacer. 

Gavin Browne from Active Tameside, who helped organise the event, said: 

“We’ve always wanted to host a running event, so we had a word with Callum from the Local Runners Podcast, and he really liked the idea. 

“We wanted to come together to host an event that will be as inclusive as possible, and we believe we’ve done that”
