Robins fight back to fly away with the points

NPL Premier Division: Ashton United 2-1 Gainsborough Trinity

Ashton’s recent habit of scoring late goals stood them in good stead again as Florian Yonsian hit the winner with a minute left to extend their unbeaten run to six games.

The visitors started the better as Jovon Makama nipped between two defenders to earn a free kick which saw Morgan Worsfold-Gregg’s delivery headed past the far post by Neal Bishop.

Jordan Simpson was then upended just outside the area by Elicha Ahui with Cole Lonsdale’s free kick seeing Ekow Coker’s header bounce just wide.

On 19 minutes Makama advanced through midfield and past several missed tackles before cutting inside Lonsdale and firing a fine opener.

Lonsdale’s deep corner then saw jack Redshaw unable to keep his header down at the far post but eight minutes before the break Ahui saw yellow for another foul on Simpson and this time Trinity were made to pay as Harry Coates headed Jack Redshaw’s ball in at the far post.

The second half didn’t have a lot to recommend it until Freddie Draper burst into the area for the visitors and missed the angle on his right foot and sub Tom Bentham saw a shot from distance saved by Yates.

A long free kick saw Osebi Abadaki race onto Coates header only to steer his effort over and a goal kick saw Yonsian’s flick saved before Hardcastle fired over via a deflection with the corner eventually rolling out over the dead ball line.

With a minute remaining a long ball saw Bentham slide in Yonsian for a neat left foot finish to steal the points.

Team: Hartley, Lufudu, Lonsdale, Simpson (Abadaki 67), Coates, Coker, Hardcastle, Brewster, Yonsian, Redshaw (Bentham 67), Tomsett. SNU: Raynes, Spratt, Jenkins.
