Kind-hearted scouts in Hyde took time out of their weekend to help volunteer at their local parkrun.
Last Saturday (11 February), 1st Newton Scout Group, based at Rosemount Church, gave the regular volunteers at parkrun in Hyde Park a well-deserved rest and promoted getting local exercise amongst their members and community.
Around 120 people took part in the free-timed event, which takes place every Saturday morning for people of all ages and abilities to run or walk. Participants meet at the bandstand in the park shortly before 9am, which is when it begins.
Last weekend’s run director Gareth Hurfurt told the Tameside Reporter: “It’s open to absolutely everyone from seven year olds to 70 or more. It’s not a race, you can choose to run and go as fast as you can or you can come along to walk and take a leisurely stroll around the park and enjoy it.
“There’s usually around 120 people who come and it’s a good community. The cafe is normally open afterwards for people to grab a coffee or tea.
“We were helped this week by the 1st Newton Scout Group who have volunteered for us, which was a big help and has joined two community groups together.”
