Young defender joins Curzon

Curzon Ashton have confirmed the signing of defender Douglas Tharme.

The 20-year-old joins the club having recently left National League outfit, Wrexham.

He made seven appearances during his time with the club, interspersed with loan spells at AFC Telford, Gainsborough Trinity, and most recently Radcliffe Borough.

Of the signing, Curzon manager Steve Cunningham said: "We're really pleased to have secured such a young and promising player, he's come through Wrexham's youth academy from the under-16s and has gone on to sample first-team football, making his debut in the FA Trophy and also being given the club's captaincy when playing in the Scottish Challenge Cup, given to him by current first-team manager, Dean Keates.

"Doug offers great potential as a young defender, he's strong, athletic, very mobile and able to play with both feet. He's very comfortable playing out from the back, but also dominant in the air and in the tackle.

"He plays beyond his years in terms of his maturity, he is very much future captain material and he has an exciting career ahead of him. I'm delighted to be able to help him progress, especially as a secured signing contracted to Curzon Ashton, rather than on a loan".

Earlier this week, midfielder and captain Robbie Evans also agreed a new contract with the club.
