Garden opening raises vital charity funds

A Simmondley couple who opened their garden to the public in aid of charity last weekend have hailed it a "big success".

Christina and Peter Harris invited residents to visit their address at 27 Storthmeadow Road last Sunday afternoon (27 June).

Christina said: "We were rather apprehensive as to how many would come due to Covid restrictions but we need not have worried. Around 150 adults attended, plus several children, and we raised £1,525 for the various charities supported by the National Garden Scheme, which are mainly nursing and medical charities.

"Peter and I would like to say a big thank you to all who supported us, friends and neighbours who manned the stalls and served refreshments. We could not open our garden without their help and to everyone who came and spent so generously."
